Activities

There are endless activities for everyone in and around The Forest of Dean. Some of the best walking and mountain biking is right on your door step and the forest character changes throughout the year – May is very special when the bluebells are in flower and the autumn brings its own beautiful hues to the forest

Symonds Yat Rock is a ten minute drive away where there are magnificent views over the Wye as it bends round in a double horseshoe beneath you. There is usually a nesting pair of peregrine falcons here which can often be seen using the binoculars of the RSPB volunteers who monitor the peregrines.

For golfers there are three golf courses within a fifteen minute drive and within about half an hour there are many more including The Rolls of Monmouth, St Pierre and Celtic Manor – home to the Ryder Cup in 2010.

The rivers Wye and Usk hold special charms for fishermen, while those with a more adventurous streak might care to try a mule or llama trek or Go Ape! at the high wire forest adventure.

Bicycles can be hired at Pedalabikeaway Cycle Centre where there is a traffic free marked trail or canoes and kayaks can be hired to explore the Wye. If you time your visit, you may be lucky enough to see the Severn Bore, which is a pleasant half hour drive through the forest.

There are many other activities and a selection of brochures will be available in the Coach House or from the Forest of Dean Tourism Officeor The Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism Association.
